The TEARS (Transform Education About Rape and Sexual abuse) Foundation provides access to crisis intervention, advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, and child sexual abuse. Confidential services are provided to all victims at no charge.

The Company
TEARS Foundation, founded in 2012 is a Registered NPO and PBO that uses technology innovatively in the scourge against domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
Business/Product or Service
TEARS Foundation is responsible for the sourcing and collating of a data-base comprised of a fully comprehensive network of services; medical, medico-legal, legal and psychological, currently available throughout South Africa, for the assistance and support of survivors of rape and sexual abuse.
This data-base will be accessible to all South Africans, *free of charge, through a web and mobisite. By using a USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) mobile interface, in conjunction with location-finding software, any South African with a cell phone will be able to receive an instant referral to the nearest available help facility, via SMS.
Our Mission and Vision
To be an agent of transformation for all aspects of education about rape and sexual abuse in order to promote positive change in societal values and attitudes, where the right to say “NO” is upheld as a basic human right; where victims of rape and sexual abuse are treated with empathy and dignity; where access to legal, medical and psychological support is easily available to each and every member of society, regardless of gender, race or economic status.We provide frontline services to women and girls affected by gender-based violence and multiple disadvantages. We invest in trauma-informed services, approaches and partnerships that reach the most marginalised women and girls to address the inequalities they face and respond to the complex needs that result from their experiences. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations.We have set out to aid those who need it most. Tearsfoundation is here to help, and we believe that change is possible when we put our hearts and minds to it.

I think so much about gender-based violence and how men are described as bad guys, murders, rapists and one day I actually asked my mom ‘are all men bad’,” said Jayden.

Confidentiality An employee who is HIV-positive or is on the verge of becoming HIVpositive, has the right to privacy and secrecy, as does the public. In the event of any
employee who has gone through or is going through a difficult time, any additional
medical or psychological issues a similar occurrence employee who are HIV-positive
are not required to work, notify management or anybody else in the organization
their HIV status, and their organization, there is no reason to require job candidates
to personal information about HIV should not be disclosed. Nor are workers
obligated to share such private information.
Employees may be given information gleaned from individual HIV testing and/or
knowledge, attitude, and practice questionnaires, if the confidentiality of individual
replies and results is respected. These data are generated in a scientific and ethical
manner, and they are only shared with external stakeholders after reasonable efforts
have been made to share them with employees and their representatives.
